Since September 2013, we have distributed approximately 5.5 million pounds of food. In that same period, Idahoans accessed our hunger relief network an average of 108,000 times each month. This network currently consists of more than 220 local nonprofits like shelters, food pantries, churches, soup kitchens, and senior centers, in 39 of Idaho’s 44 counties. In addition to offering a reliable inventory of free food, the Foodbank helps our partners with issues of food safety, equitable distribution, and other best practices for operating a hunger-relief service.
The Idaho Foodbank has experienced tremendous growth in the last five years as we expanded to meet increased need in our state. Our annual distribution increased 130% from 4.6 million meals in 2008 to 10.7 million meals in our fiscal year ending April 30, 2013.
