With generous support from our cornerstone sponsors, J.R. Simplot Co. and Farm Bureau Insurance, the Pocatello community raised $6,280.35 to support The Idaho Foodbank at his year’s Art for Food. Our warehouse was packed with almost 100 people, great food and beautiful art.
These funds will allow the Foodbank to provide more than 18,000 meals.
In addition to being a fundraiser, Art for Food is also to honor recipients of the Mayor’s Awards for the Arts.
This year’s honorees were:
* Bob Beason – Individual Award
* Kyd J Band – Musical Award
* ISU Children’s Chorus – Lifetime Achievement Award
Again this year, Idaho Power’s “Shine a Light on Hunger” event was one of our guests’ favorites. The company funded the purchase of lampshades for people and businesses in the community to decorate and generated a $225 donation. The lampshade that got the highest bid sold for $55.
Additional funds came from the art sale and the silent auction.
Another highlight was the amazing food, including desserts, catered by the ISU chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron National Honor Society.
It was these wonderful caterers who accidentally created the dessert auction. This was not on the program, but there were several dessert items left over, so we put them up for bid. One tray of goodies generated some spirited bidding and eventually sold for $210. Then the winner gave it back and asked the second bidder if he would buy it for his $200 bid. He agreed, gave it back and asked the runner-up bidder if he would buy it for the $175 he had bid. He agreed, then gave the deserts back to the Foodbank.
The total donation for one dessert tray was $585. The next day, that same tray mysteriously appeared at the groundbreaking for the Chief Theater sign.
It was a wonderful evening. We are already looking forward to another successful event next year.
Thank you again to our sponsors who made this event possible: J.R. Simplot Company, Farm Bureau Insurance, Idaho Power Co., Red Lion Hotel, Flowers by LD, Marigold’s Wine & Delicacies, Intermountain Beverage and the ISU Stephens Performing Arts Center.
