It was a bit of a surprise when 17 members of the Boise Police Department’s Patrol Division showed up at our door — in full uniform. But it turned out they were expected, and they came to serve. In a little over an hour, they put together 1,300 refills for our Backpack Program.
Many children depend on school lunches and breakfasts for the food they need during the week. On weekends, the Backpack Program discreetly provides these children with food to take home on weekends and out-of-school periods. Each of the nutritious refills the officers made contains two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and two snacks. That way, the kids return to school ready to learn.
