On Thursday, March 22, 2012, a crew from A.A.I. Demolition of Boise began tearing down a vacant house at 1415 W. Jefferson St., across from City Light Home for Women and Children. The newly vacant lot will make way for Grandma Z’s Memorial Garden. This memorial garden, named after the Co-Founder, the late Carmalita Zamzow , will serve to provide fresh produce for the rescue mission.
“Carmalita Zamzow was born in 1897 and moved to Boise in 1902. She married August Zamzow in 1915, in the parish house behind St. John’s Catholic Church in Boise. In 1933, she helped found Zamzows Inc., a successful family business that has grown and prospered for over seventy-eight years.” ( Zamzow’s Company history)
The Boise Rescue Mission currently serves between 900 and 1,000 meals per day on average between their three facilities in the Treasure Valley. City Light Home for Women and Children opened up in 2000 and offers emergency shelter, counseling, and other assistance to Boise’s most vulnerable Homeless.
