Imagine my surprise when…
I looked out the window this past Saturday and saw not just rain, but slush falling from the sky! Falling and soaking everything in its path, and scaring all of the little plants in my backyard. Luckily they’re all hardy, so I think they’re fine. Thank goodness I didn’t plant any eggplant, pumpkin, herb, or pepper seedlings yet! Especially considering that I think I saw some frost this morning before work.
Spring in Idaho is proving to be even more unpredictable than the Minnesota springs I grew up with. This being my first spring in the area, it’s all I have to go by. Locals tell me it isn’t normal. I guess we’ll see what summer brings!
However, don’t let the weather dampen your mood and lessen your desire to volunteer. One of these days, maybe by July (haha), it will eventually warm up. And even if it doesn’t, gardens STILL need your help. Plants don’t sleep! There are volunteer opportunities for everyone, whether you can only commit to a one-time deal, have more time to give, or would like to join a garden (though it’s getting a bit late for that this season).
We’re waiting to hear from you! Let’s fight the weather with our desire to garden.
