Idaho Senate passes grocery tax credit freeze

The Senate has approved HCR 25, the measure to put off the scheduled $10 increase in the grocery tax credit for all Idahoans next year, to save $15 million in next year’s state budget. The grocery tax credit is now $50 for most Idahoans and $70 for the low-income, with an additional $20 for seniors in either category.

Save the Date: Pocatello’s Great Potato Bowl is May 2

 

Come sample food from some of Pocatello’s best restaurants and vote on your favorites! 

 

The Great Potato Bowl offers Pocatello-area restaurants and caterers a chance to entice the public with samples of their signature dishes, meet potential customers, hand out their literature and garner some media exposure. Food enthusiasts get the opportunity to try food from establishments they have never visited and meet the people behind its creation. A raffle and auction will add to the fun. 

And it all goes to benefit The Idaho Foodbank and Family Services Alliance.

When: Monday, May 2, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Where: ISU Ballroom

Admission: $5 per person/$25 per family

Last year’s Great Potato Bowl drew 20 vendors, 1,500 people and raised $5,000 for The Idaho Foodbank and the Family Service Alliance. This year, as times have gotten tougher, organizers are determined to exceed those levels. There are already 25 vendors signed up.

Vendors this year will include Dutch Oven Delights, Mama Inez, ISU Culinary Arts, The Sand Trap, Kowloon Express, Anderson Custom Pack, Remo’s Restaurant, Starbucks, Buddy’s Italian Restaurant, Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, The Popcorn Shop and More, Ruby Tuesday, Wing ‘N’ Diner, Starbucks, Elmer’s Pancake & Steak House, Frog Hollow, Great Harvest Bread, Texas Roadhouse, Costco, 5th Street Bagelry, Gary’s Cooking, United Dairymen of Idaho, Ranae’s Rolls, Uncle Jim’s and Cooking Dutch.

Sponsors include ON Semiconductor, Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co. of Idaho and Steele & Associates Marketing Communications. General Potato and Onion Distributors in Shelley will donate Famous Potatoes to any restaurant that prepares a potato-themed dish.
