Foodbank’s Karen Vauk Named Idaho Business Review Woman of the Year

Karen Vauk, President and CEO of The Idaho Foodbank, was named Idaho Business Review’s Woman of the Year during ceremonies held at the Boise Centre, Tuesday night, Feb. 21.
The award was presented by Heidi Thompson, President and co-founder of Scentsy, Inc. and the 2011 Woman of the Year.
Karen was one of 50 Idaho women nominated for the prestigious award, which for seven years has recognized women from public, private and charitable business sectors.
The process started with more than 180 nominations from across the state – 50 more than in 2011. Half the nominees completed the application process and were rated by past Women of the Year honorees. In all four categories – professional accomplishment, leadership, community involvement and commitment to goals – Vauk scored highest.
“To say I’m surprised is an understatement,” said Karen when she received her award. “Considering the women who have been nominated for this award, there are so many great things that have been accomplished by the people in this room, I didn’t think I could compare.”
“Every one of these 50 women of the year exemplifies what it takes to be a leader,” said IBR Vice President and Publisher Sean Evans. “Year after year we are amazed by the caliber of all of these women who are deeply involved in their communities and are accomplished professionals who follow through on long-term goals.”
The nominees’ stories will be featured in a special publication in the Feb. 24 issue of IBR.
