May 10, 2014 marks the 22nd year of Stamp Out Hunger!
Mark your calendars – the National Letter Carrier Stamp Out Hunger event is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2014. This is our largest food drive of the year, and we can’t do it without your help!
Led by letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), with the help of rural letter carriers, other postal employees and numerous other volunteers, the drive has resulted in delivery of more than one billion pounds of donations to community food banks and pantries over the past 20 years.
Last year in The Treasure Valley the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive raised over 170,000 pounds.
Volunteers are needed to help unload letter carrier vehicles and sorting food donations. This is a great activity for groups!

Every second Saturday in May letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America deliver much more than mail when they walk and drive along their postal routes. They also collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers who participate in the NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive — the largest one-day food drive in the nation and probably the world.
On Saturday, May 10, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will Stamp Out Hunger across America in order to provide assistance to the rapidly increasing number of Americans who are struggling with hunger.
Now in its 22nd year, the Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. In 2012, 70.5 million pounds of food was donated, which brought the grand total of donations to more than 1.2 billion pounds of food collected over the history of the drive.
Unfortunately, despite the generosity of millions of Americans who have supported the letter carriers’ food drive in previous years, the need for food assistance has never been greater. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s annual study measuring food security in the United States, nearly 50 million Americans are living in food insecure homes.
