The members of Styx know this is not “The Best of Times” for too many people in this country. Their charity, Rock to the Rescue, was established to support nonprofits nationwide that lend a hand to people in need.
In Lewiston, on Saturday, Oct. 26, Styx and fans raised $800 to support The Idaho Foodbank’s Backpack Program. The band generously donated a guitar that was raffled off to fans at its Clearwater River Casino concert.
The money will provide a school year’s worth of weekend backpacks full of food for four children.
The Backpack Program allows the Idaho Foodbank to provide elementary-age children with nourishing food each weekend during the school year. These special packs weigh about six pounds and include enough nonperishable, child-friendly, and easy to prepare food for two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, and two snacks. When the children go back to school Monday they are focused on learning, not hunger.
Our thanks to the Styx organization, concert-goers and the amazing volunteers from Primeland Cooperatives and Idavend Broadcasting. It was a fantastic evening for all concerned and will feed a lot of hungry children.
