July is Beef Month
July is Beef Month in Idaho! Did you know that cattle are raised in every county in Idaho? Idaho’s beef industry is the second largest agricultural industry ranking right behind dairy. The Idaho Foodbank is pleased to partner with this important agriculture community as we work to provide high-quality protein to our neighbors facing food insecurity.
Beef Counts, which began in 2010, is a program designed to help provide a consistent supply of high-quality protein throughout the year to The Foodbank. This is done with both cash and cattle contributions made by the beef industry in Idaho. Since the program began, it has provided over 2.8 million servings of beef to Idahoans who are struggling to make ends meet. Beef is a highly desired food by many of the people we serve.
The Boise Hawks Baseball Team will be celebrating Beef Month at their game on July 17th. A portion of ticket sales for this game and a portion of food sales at the game will benefit The Foodbank. Earlier this summer The Idaho Foodbank warehouse in Lewiston hosted people from the University of Idaho Extension Office of Clearwater County to participate in a volunteer shift to support Beef Counts.
