Onward Shay! Boise Marathon is a 5K, 10K, half and full marathon, including a kid’s race, expo and more! The course is flat, fast (Boston qualifier) and fun, showcasing the historic North End, vibrant downtown, and beautiful greenbelt.
The race will be held in honor of Shay Hirsch, wife of George Hirsch. George is the former publisher of “Runner’s World,” now Chairman of the Board of the New York City Road Runners. Shay was brought up in Boise, ran marathons, and trained for many years with Boise friends who knew and loved her. Shay lost her eleven year battle with Multiple Myeloma in February of 2014. Every uplifting email she wrote to friends following her progression ended with, “Onward, Shay.”
In memory of Shay, this race is inspirational, creative, and diverse.
All proceeds go to a few of the charities Shay loved to support, as well as the Multiple Myeloma Research foundation.
On the Friday after Thanksgiving, The Idaho Foodbank hosts Empty Bowls in downtown Boise on the Grove Plaza. Throughout the year we collect handcrafted and hand-painted bowls from professional and amateur artisans, students, and studios. The event offers the opportunity to select a unique bowl from thousands and then enjoy a hot bowl of soup generously donated by one of several of our finest local restaurants.Find out more »
