Partnerships to Nourish Health and Hope
At The Idaho Foodbank, we know that food is more than a meal—it’s a foundation for health. That’s why we’re proud to collaborate with healthcare providers and other community partners across the state who are helping us connect families with the nutrition and resources they need to thrive.
Healthcare Integration
Food insecurity is more than an empty pantry—it’s a social determinant of health (SDOH), a non-medical factor that influences health outcomes. SDOH include access to nutritious food, safe housing, education, and transportation. When these needs aren’t met, people are more likely to experience chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and depression. By screening patients for food insecurity and connecting them with resources, our healthcare partners are addressing health care needs beyond the exam room.
Nutrition Education
Through partnerships with St. Luke’s Magic Valley and North Canyon Medical Center, families are gaining practical skills to prepare healthy, affordable meals. The Idaho Foodbank has been providing Cooking Matters ™️classes in South Central Idaho in collaboration with the public health professionals at St. Luke’s Magic Valley and North Canyon Medical Center. Currently, a Cooking Matters for Adults series is being hosted by North Canyon Jerome Clinic. This is one example of bringing nutrition and cooking education directly into the community, empowering neighbors with tools for long-term well-being.
Food Pantries & Emergency Support
Several healthcare partners are ensuring that nutritious food is available right where patients need it most. St. Luke’s Medical Center in Jerome and Saint Alphonsus Health System clinics have food pantries, while Full Circle Health distributes emergency food bags to patients who screen positive for food insecurity. Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Garden City is doing some innovating work by offering a food pantry, senior food boxes, and free walk-in acute medical care for uninsured adults all under one roof.
Working Together for Healthier Communities
These collaborations show what’s possible when healthcare and hunger relief come together. By integrating food access into medical care, we can help reduce barriers, improve health outcomes, and create stronger, healthier communities. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of all of our healthcare community partners.
