School is back in session and most college students are settled in and well into their routine with classes, but for some, there’s not always certainty about where they will get their next meal. Collin Peterson with the Bean of Students at Boise State says about one in three students have expressed that they have gone hungry or have struggled with having enough food in the past thirty days.
Jim, a 64 year-old Nampa resident, was diagnosed with diabetes in September 2018. Always seeking the quickest means of satiating hunger – processed foods, microwave dinners, fast food – the idea of taking a cooking class was a bit daunting for Jim. However, the thought of daily insulin shots was a powerful motivator.
Picnic in the Park ends on Friday, August 9. We want to thank everyone who participated, volunteered and especially to these twelve Vista Service Associates that made it all happen!
August is Harvest month here at The Idaho Foodbank! We are expecting Beets from Pleasant Valley Farm anytime now. We have been packing lots of apricots and are expecting a gauntlet of peaches, apples, plums, and pears that should last up until Thanksgiving.
Join us for Hullaba-MOO on Saturday, June 1 as Dairy West, Albertsons, and The Idaho Foodbank kick off the “Moo Bucks” campaign to benefit Idaho families in need. The free event runs from noon to 3 p.m. at Albertsons Market Street in Meridian at 3499 E. Fairview Ave. “Moo Bucks” will be available at Albertsons checkouts June 1-15, which will help The Idaho Foodbank distribute dairy foods to clients.
An annual study released by Feeding America is showing the continuation of a positive trend in the total number of Idahoans who are food-insecure. The Map the Meal Gap report provides critical information including food insecurity rates for both the state and county level as well as the family budget shortfall for food-insecure Idahoans. Overall, the state’s numbers improved by 0.9 percentage points. Unfortunately, one in eight Idahoans and one in six children is still food insecure.
The Idaho Foodbank’s Board of Directors was pleased to recognize volunteers from across the state this morning in honor of their commitment to hunger relief. Just this last year over 24,000 volunteers put in over 58,000 hours at our warehouse and branch locations, working at fundraising events, distributing food at mobile pantries, and helping teach Cooking Matters classes. These volunteers who put in over 100 hours last year deserve special recognition.

At The Idaho Foodbank North Central branch we may have a small staff but thanks to volunteers you wouldn’t know it! Volunteers work across the organization including a lovely group of women who volunteer their time managing the front desk. They are the first faces a guest sees when walking through the front door to make a donation, volunteer, or to ask for food assistance.
Thank you to everyone for supporting our Million Meals in March campaign and helping us raise the food and funds for a million nutritious meals for Idaho families. We couldn’t do it without your kindness and your support.
Every year for the past 23 years Norma Boyd has written a song for Feeding the 5000 in Pocatello, an annual event that benefits The Idaho Foodbank. This year she’s put together a CD of all of the songs that can be purchased and 100% of the proceeds go to the Idaho Foodbank. The CD sells for $20 and available at various Feeding the 5000 events in Pocatello, which run from February to May.
