A Community Thanksgiving in Pocatello

On November 22, our Pocatello team was joined by nearly 300 volunteers to distribute Thanksgiving meal ingredients to more than 1,000 households—feeding over 4,000 people in the Pocatello area. Over the course of a few hours, hundreds of cars moved through our distribution lanes. The people in each car who drove away with food for a holiday meal are a reminder of how powerful community partnerships can be during a season that is challenging for many families.

The community effort to make this Thanksgiving distribution come together began back in October with a friendly “stuffing showdown” among volunteers at The Idaho Foodbank, where the “Pocatello Rockstars” claimed victory. Businesses and organizations also joined the fun, competing to collect corn, green beans, pie filling, yams, and more. Thanks to Lookout Credit Union, School District 25, Southeastern Idaho Public Health, the Chamber Champions, and St. Vincent De Paul, we secured the majority of food needed for the event. A special congratulations goes to Southeastern Idaho Public Health, winners of this year’s Holiday Food Fight Trophy!

Throughout November, Barrie’s Ski and Sports hosted their Cranksgiving fundraiser, bringing in turkeys, while the Pocatello Police Department ran their spirited Give the Cops a Bird campaign, collecting both turkeys and donations. These efforts provided the centerpiece for a full Thanksgiving meal.
