When Alaska first started the holiday food drive in 2009, the idea was to fill an entire virtual plane based on the weight of food and what a plane could hold space-wise. This effort grew over time to eventually include partnerships with local food banks as well as online donations. Thanks to your recent generosity, over the past six years we’ve raised nearly $765,000 and donated more than 47,000 pounds of canned goods to food banks across the country.

Last year, during our 13th annual “Pack the Plane” food drive, Alaska and Horizon employees packed the equivalent of more than 42 cargo planes. Working together, we raised more than $214,000 in financial donations and collected 3,400 pounds of canned goods for local food banks, providing almost one million meals to those facing food insecurities in the midst of a global pandemic.
