Bannock County Thanksgiving Food Box Distribution Helps 1,200 Food Insecure Families

November was a busy time for The Idaho Foodbank in Pocatello! Some of the Eastern Idaho events in November were the Cranksgiving Turkey Drive and Give the Cops A Bird, both in support of The Idaho Foodbank’s Thanksgiving food box distribution.

For Cranksgiving, Barrie’s Ski and Sports collected donations of nearly 1,000 frozen turkeys and the event culminated in a parade of bicyclists of all ages to ceremonially deliver the turkeys to The Idaho Foodbank’s Pocatello warehouse. The Portneuf Valley FOP Lodge 13 and Pocatello Police Department collected frozen turkey and financial donations as part of their annual Give the Cops A Bird event.

The Saturday before Thanksgiving, these donations were part of The Idaho Foodbank’s Thanksgiving food box distribution. Nearly 1,200 families in Bannock County received one of these food boxes. We appreciate the 241 volunteers, including the Idaho National Guard, that spent their day out in the cold, wind, and rain to get the food into the cars of our neighbors in need.

We would also like to thank the following organizations for helping make this event possible:

  • Our Holiday Food Fight participants who competed to bring in various Thanksgiving meal items
  • The Bannock County Event Center for letting us use their space again this year to allow for as many people as possible to get food
  • The Bannock County Commissioners for approving our request to use the Event Center
  • Pro Rentals and Sales in Pocatello for donating a forklift to be used for loading purposes
  • Four J’s Portable Toilets for donating porta potties for our volunteers

We are eternally grateful for all of the support from volunteers, businesses, and the community as a whole for working together to help give our neighbors in eastern Idaho access to a nutritious meal this holiday season.
