Consumption of beef provides your body with a wide variety of nutrients. Beef contains high amounts of protein, vitamins, and minerals that aid in building and maintaining muscle mass as well as improving exercise performance. Beef is made of essential amino acids that give our body the protein it needs.  

Beef contains high levels of iron which can help prevent iron deficiency anemia. Moderate consumption of beef can improve blood health by increasing the amount of iron. There are a lot of vitamins in beef, including a significant amount of B vitamins and smaller amounts of vitamins E and K. Vitamin B-12 is an important nutrient and is only found in animal proteins such as beef.  

It’s important to know beef should be consumed in moderation because it contains saturated fats and sodium. One serving size of beef is 3 ounces, or roughly the size of a deck of cards. Choosing the leaner beef options, such as 80% to 95% lean beef, is a way to limit sodium and saturated fats. Cooking beef at lower temperatures and reducing intake of charcoaled beef are healthier cooking options.
