Players from the University of Nevada and Ohio University football teams playing in this year’s Famous Potato Bowl competed yesterday to “Tackle Hunger” at Bishop Kelly High School.

The contest to build the most food boxes for the Idaho Foodbank in the least amount of time was sponsored by Albertsons and The Idaho Potato Commission. In less than 90 minutes, the Wolf Pack and Bobcats football team members prepared and boxed over 40,000 meals of dehydrated potatoes and rice.

The J.R. Simplot Company, the Idaho Grower Shippers Association and Agri-Beef Co. donated an extra 21,000 meals. The meals include easy to assemble meals with mashed potatoes, rice, and beef that will go to communities throughout Idaho to feed those who struggle with hunger.

The Famous Potato Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, Jan 3. at Albertson’s Stadium in Boise.
