Calling On Communities – Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month. During Hunger Action Month, The Idaho Foodbank is joining the nationwide Feeding America network in calling on all Idahoans to Play Your Part. As the cost of essentials like groceries and energy continue to put pressure on household budgets, everyone can take action to help ensure their neighbors have access to the food they need to thrive.

According to the latest data available from Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study, 14.2%  of Idahoans, over 280,000 people, experience food insecurity. The child food insecurity rate has climbed to 18%. Food insecurity is when a household does not have reliable access to sufficient, affordable, and nutritious food.

Hunger Action Month aims to spread awareness on food insecurity and drive collective action to help meet the needs of our neighbors. Hunger Action Day falls on September 29, but you don’t need to wait until then to get involved.

People can get involved locally by donating at idahofoodbank.org or through the actions below:

  • Volunteer at your local food pantry
  •  Learn more and share information about food insecurity
  • Host a food or fund drive

Hunger Action Month can bring communities together to elevate the voices of people who experience food insecurity and inspire everyone to take action in the movement to end hunger.
