From Food Bank Client to Volunteer Coordinator: Ashley Singer’s Journey

Ashley Singer’s personal history with food banks began in her childhood. For about five years, her family relied on food banks and a neighborhood soup kitchen to keep food on the table. She fondly recalls the soup kitchen’s children’s play area, which provided a small library of books and toys.
In 2018, Ashley joined The Idaho Foodbank as a part-time receptionist, seeking a change from a difficult job. Her role involved answering phones, distributing emergency food bags, and handling various administrative tasks. Over time, she also took on the responsibilities of the Volunteer Program Coordinator, a role she officially assumed in November 2024.
As the Volunteer Program Coordinator, Ashley recruits and cultivates volunteers, plans projects, and develops relationships with corporate and community organizations. She also assists with food drives and special events, coordinates the community service program, and maintains volunteer records.
Ashley is currently working on learning new skills, such as driving a forklift. She is also completing a Non-Profit Management course. Ashley is truly an inspiring and exemplary employee, and we are proud of the great attitude and strong skillset she brings to her work at The Foodbank.
