Harvest Report: Cherries Begin To Arrive
Believe it or not, early harvest has begun, and we’re learning a lot very quickly. Summer harvest has some growers having to replant as much as 30 percent of their crop! One of our partners had to suspend their retail outlet because of the way spring and late winter treated crops. But it’s not all bad news. But it’s not all bad news. We are picking cherries out at the LDS orchard in Caldwell and while the crop is small in quantity, you can see in the pictures that the size and quality are great. We’re hoping to see some of these cherries making their way into our warehouse to be distributed to the people in need all over Idaho. Cherry harvest will finish early next week then the harvest of apricots will begin in early July. We’re expecting to get tons of pears for Idaho families. With apricots, pears, apples and plums all on their way soon: the recipients of food will be getting some of the highest quality, best-tasting fruit available.
