Harvest Report: Pre-season Prep
Winter has been very kind to the Treasure Valley this year and as a result, spring harvest preparation is already underway at the LDS Orchard in Caldwell. Large tree limbs are being pruned and mulched into rows. One of the most important projects is getting the wind machines serviced.
Thanks to the shadow of Punxsutawney Phil, there are a few more weeks left of winter. That means it’s important to protect trees from the cold. Smudge pots are being set up throughout the orchard to prevent frost on fruit trees.
Hopefully the mild winter is a sign of a great upcoming harvest season that will help us turn Idaho families’ hunger to health in 2018.
