Hope for the Holidays
Food brings people together, especially during the holidays. We know that too many Idahoans are struggling during the holidays and throughout the year. In our last fiscal year, The Idaho Foodbank served an average of 213,000 people per month. By working together with our partner network and supporters in every Idaho county, we know that we can make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.
Our Hope for the Holidays campaign kicked off last month and November was a busy month! Stinker Stores wrapped up their annual “Stomp Out Hunger” campaign where customers had the opportunity to make a donation to The Idaho Foodbank when they paid for their purchases. This year, Stomp Out Hunger raised enough to provide food for over 200,000 meals! We appreciate the enthusiasm and excitement of Stinker customers and employees during the Stomp Out Hunger campaign to address food insecurity in Idaho.
Micron employees donated over 1,000 turkeys and over 400 hams to The Idaho Foodbank! Micron and their employees generously support The Foodbank year-round with financial donations and their volunteer time. The Great Idaho Food Drive, sponsored by Les Schwab, Channel 2 News, KBOI, TDS Fiber, and Two Men and A Truck was also a success. This food drive brought in enough food to provide over 25,000 meals. University of Idaho and Idaho State University also worked together to Tackle Hunger by hosting a food and fund drive leading up to the Vandals vs. the Bengals football game, to provide food for 6,500 meals!
Also in November, The Idaho Foodbank held a Thanksgiving food box distribution in Bannock County. Thanks to the support of the community through donations and volunteer time, over 1,200 families received food to cook a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
No one in our community should experience food insecurity. During this time of year when we reflect on the things for which we are grateful, we appreciate all of the partnerships and support that allow us to work together to interrupt the cycle of food insecurity. From now until the end of December, Corwin Ford will match donations made to The Idaho Foodbank. We appreciate Corwin Ford’s support of our mission to address food insecurity in Idaho.
