Inspirational Volunteer
Mike Vanderkooi has been a volunteer at The Idaho Foodbank’s Pocatello facility for more than 10 years. Mike also has Multiple Sclerosis. When the pandemic hit, he was unable to attend volunteer sessions and was devastated that he had to stay home. While he did get to practice his diamond dot skills, he missed helping and supporting his community. The pandemic changed so much of what we do in the Foodbank world, including how many volunteers we have working together at one time.
When Mike returned to volunteer in April 2021, he was absolutely astounded by what a group of 10 individuals was able to accomplish in a two hour session. On more than one occasion since his return, Mike has made it a point to praise the volunteers on their productivity and their commitment to accomplish so much in such a short amount of time. We are so excited to have Mike back with us and hope he continues to volunteer for at least the next 10 years!
