National Nutrition Month: Discover the Power of Nutrition

Nutrition Powers Better Health

March is National Nutrition Month! Nutritious food is one of the strongest tools we have for long‑term health. When families have access to fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins—along with the knowledge to use them—they’re better able to prevent chronic disease and support children’s growth, learning, and well‑being. The Idaho Foodbank’s emphasis on nutrition and nutrition education helps make the healthy choice the easy choice for Idahoans who are food insecure.

Nutrition Powers Community Strength

Nutrition grows stronger when it’s shared with others. Across Idaho, our partners, volunteers, and educators help create healthier environments by offering nutrition education classes, distributing nutritious foods, and connecting families with resources. Every pantry, school, and community site becomes a place where people learn together and support one another.

Nutrition Powers Smart Budgeting

Nutrition education gives families practical skills that stretch their food budgets without sacrificing health. From comparing unit prices to planning meals and reading labels, our programs help Idahoans make informed choices in the grocery aisle and get the most out of every dollar.

Nutrition Powers Confidence

When someone learns a new recipe, tries a new ingredient, or discovers they can prepare a healthy meal on a budget, that’s empowerment. The Idaho Foodbank’s hands‑on classes build confidence in the kitchen and help families feel more in control of their health and daily routines.

A Real‑World Example

During one of The Idaho Foodbank’s recent Cooking Matters at the Store class, seniors from Frank Church High School practiced budgeting, comparing unit pricing, and making healthy choices with $15 to spend. Their confidence grew as they compared prices, asked thoughtful questions, and discovered how far their dollars could go. For many, it was an exciting step toward independence as they prepare for life after graduation.
