February is American Heart Month. This is a time to learn about heart health, including ways to treat and prevent heart attacks and heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death in Idaho. However, a healthy diet and lifestyle are fundamental ways you can keep your heart strong and healthy!

It is important to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, as well as healthy sources of protein. This can look like plant-based protein, low-fat or nonfat dairy, and lean animal meats. Try to reduce your intake of processed foods, added sugars, and salt. When consuming fats, liquid vegetable oils are healthier options.

Exercising for at least 30 minutes every day is good for your heart. It is even better to do moderate activity for 150 minutes each week. Your heart is important and with these tips you can help keep it strong.
