October is Hunger Awareness Month in Idaho & The Idaho Foodbank Celebrates its 40th Anniversary
Did you know that 1 in 9 Idahoans and 1 in 7 Idaho children experience food insecurity?
Since 1984, The Idaho Foodbank has worked tirelessly to alleviate food insecurity in our state. Forty years ago the first facility opened in the Boise area and since those humble beginnings, The Idaho Foodbank now serves every county in the state and works with over 400 partners state-wide and beyond, including organizations like Feeding the Northwest.
The Idaho Foodbank’s mission is about more than just providing food. We also collaborate and engage with community partners and members to promote health across the state. As an organization, we have an intentional focus on health. This month we highlight partnerships offering programs that align with our ‘Hunger to Health Strategic’ approach to supporting food insecurity solutions:
- Nutrition: We emphasize providing healthy food to individuals, families, and communities in need through our statewide network. Our goal is to make the healthy choice the easy choice
- Education: We focus on the delivery and promotion of cooking, nutrition education, and distribution of nutrition/health education materials
- Healthy Communities: We collaborate with organizations across our state to provide leadership, subject-matter expertise, and/or solutions to new and existing community needs.
