Innovation and Sustainability
Our Programs and Partners
The Idaho Foodbank recognizes that consistent access to nutritious food is vital to wellbeing and that different communities across the state experience different challenges in achieving this. Our programs and partnerships represent the continual goal of exploring innovative and impactful strategies and tools, coupled with sustainability of long-term solutions.
Innovation
The pandemic has shown that in challenging times, Idahoans do what they can to manage the situation, and prevail over it. Our facilities in Meridian, Lewiston and Pocatello remained fully operational throughout the COVID-19 crisis. The team and our partners upstarted new delivery methods, pivoted processing logistics to safely pack and deliver food to communities, as well as learn from communities in new ways.
New and evolved programming includes:
- The Community Liaison Program – formed to learn from focus and under-represented communities.
- Providing culturally responsive food that are both familiar and comfortable to communities being served; ensuring they are able to prepare and enjoy the foods being provided.
- Created and built on partnership with healthcare organizations to provide co-location of services to allow neighbors to have a one-stop location for food assistance, referrals to medical providers, vaccine information, and information to other services. - Partnering with organizations with a shared aim of uplifting communities such and the role out of findhelpidaho.org – a statewide effort to allow neighbors to find a wide range of services.
Community Listening
Studies show that tribal communities face food insecurity at rates as high as 25% and the Latino community is 2.5 times more likely to experience food insecurity. To learn more about how best to support these communities, The Idaho Foodbank has employed Community Liaisons to work with their local communities to better understand how they are impacted by hunger.
