Recognizing Our Many Partners in Dairy Month

June is National Dairy Month. Did you know that Idaho is one of the top five highest dairy-producing states in the nation? Sourcing quality dairy products is important to the health of our community. At The Idaho Foodbank, we have a lot to celebrate when it comes to dairy.
For some food banks across the country, obtaining dairy products can be a challenge. Here in Idaho, we are fortunate to be supported by many organizations in the dairy community.
Dairy foods provide many health benefits to our neighbors. Milk, yogurt, and cheese are significant sources of calcium, potassium, vitamin D, vitamin A, and high-quality protein. In fiscal year 2024, 14% of the food we distributed was dairy. Our food distribution efforts align with USDA’s MyPlate recommendations. Our goal is to make the healthy choice easy and accessible.
Dairy West continues to play an important role in making dairy more available to Idahoans who are food insecure by providing refrigerators to many of our food distribution partners so they can store milk, cheese, and other dairy products for their neighbors in need. Chobani continues to be supporters of hunger-relief efforts and they have developed and donated innovative dairy products for food banks, such as shelf-stable milk.
Thank you to Dairy West, Chobani, Darigold, Meadow Gold Dairies, Danone, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and all our dairy partners for their year-round support! We appreciate the generosity of our dairy community to help us make healthy, balanced food choices available to our neighbors in need.
