Staff Spotlight: Jacob Klein, IT Systems Administrator – Meridian

Before working at The Idaho Foodbank, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I worked with my brother as a Deconstruction Contractor. These are the people that go into homes and buildings, and work to tear everything down for remodels or removals. It was interesting to be given a task “take down this wall” and to go about it with whatever tool worked best, the only consideration was my own safety.
What was the most ridiculous impulse purchase you’ve ever made?
I bought a “Anti-spy bug detector” just out of curiosity about what it could find. It turns out that it was able to find all sorts of communications at home. My TV, any smart device, my computer, a key FOB push, all would cause it to sound off. Without turning most things off at home, it would always make noise. Way too much hassle for someone who doesn’t need it!
The thing I enjoy most about my job is ___________ .
Having the ever-changing workload, to be able to work with everyone across the IFB at different times.
What is the kindest thing someone has done for you?
I had a friend who cooked an entire week’s worth of food when I was going through a rough patch in my life. I didn’t realize that a simple action of receiving food made my entire life feel uplifted.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
I struggled with my French knowledge until my tutor said, “The purpose of learning a language isn’t to be perfect, it’s to be understood and to understand.” That instantly made me feel better for “just” knowing the basics.
What song is guaranteed to make you sing?
“Work to Do” by Average White Band. This was a must for any karaoke nights and continues to be a great singin’ song.
