Staff Spotlight – Janis Begay – Meridian Warehouse Specialist

What is your WHY, why do you work at The Idaho Foodbank?

I work at The Foodbank because I have always believed in helping people receive food, especially children. They are innocent and they don’t fully understand food shortages and prices.

The thing I enjoy most about my job is ___________ .

I enjoy helping hundreds, maybe even thousands of people, while putting my energy and time into one area.

What is your greatest personal achievement?

My greatest achievement is purchasing a house at 29 years old.

What is the kindest thing someone has done for you?

The kindest thing someone has done for me is praying for me and hearing what they want for my life in the present and in the future.

What is the strangest gift you have ever received?

My High School Graduation Gift I received from a family friend was some Dried Bison meat with some crackers. I thought it was so strange but at the same time I loved it and I thought it was so yummy.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

It’s ok to worry about yourself and put yourself first. If you don’t take care of yourself first, you can get very sick. Listen to your body if you don’t, it will make you listen.

My favorite way to spend the day is _______________.

It just depends on what the weather is like. If it’s sunny, I will take my dog to a different part of town and take her for a walk. If it’s raining or cold, I will give my dog a chew toy and go sit in my beading room and bead.

What is on your bucket list?

To travel across the states on Amtrak.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“We don’t find the meaning of life by ourselves, we find it with another” -Thomas Merton

What has been the most impactful part of working at The Idaho Foodbank during your tenure?

What always touches my heart at the end of the day and walking by my work. Seeing the food all together and ready to go out the door to its destination and knowing it’s going to be in homes feeding handicapped people, children, working families, struggling families, single parents and elders. Anyone that truly knows me knows that I enjoy helping people. Whether it’s making things easier, helping with money, food or just being present with a hug.
