Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday May
STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE ON SATURDAY, MAY 11TH
National Association of Letter Carriers Hosts Food Drive Supporting The Idaho Foodbank
Meridian, ID – The nation’s biggest food drive is this Saturday, May 11th. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is a national event, organized by the National Association of Letters Carriers (NALC).
Here’s how it works: residents fill any bag with non-perishable food, place the bag next to their mailboxes on Saturday, May 11th, and their letter carrier will pick the bag up on their mail route. The food that is donated in the Treasure Valley will go to The Idaho Foodbank and their food distribution partners to help our neighbors in need.
To raise awareness about the May 11th Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, members of the National Association of Letter Carriers and The Idaho Foodbank gathered at Undone Salon in Boise to have their hair dyed blue to match the Letter Carriers’ uniforms. Boise City Council Member Jordan Morales read a mayoral proclamation declaring May 11th as “National Letter Carriers’ Food Drive Day”.
For a food drive, some of the most needed items are: whole grain pasta and cereal; low sodium canned vegetables; fruit canned in juice or extra light syrup; and dry or canned beans. Easy to open items, such as canned food with pop top lids, are also helpful.
You can learn more about how you can participate in Stamp Out Hunger by donating food or funds on The Idaho Foodbank’s website at idahofoodbank.org.
