Summer Farmer’s Markets and SNAP

Did you know that you may be able to use your SNAP benefits at Idaho Farmer’s Markets this summer? Farmer’s Markets throughout the state of Idaho participate in food access programs such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and the Double Up Food Bucks match. These programs help Idahoans purchase fresh, healthy, and local food from local farmers. That is a triple win!

Eligible SNAP recipients receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card which is used like a debit card at participating Farmer’s Markets. To check eligibility requirements and apply for SNAP, please visit the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare’s website.

The Double Up Food Bucks program doubles the value of SNAP benefits spent at participating markets. So, SNAP recipients can purchase $2 worth of produce for the price of just $1. This means more bang for your buck, and more access to healthy fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers.

To find a list of Idaho Farmer’s Markets organized by region, as well as view which fruits and vegetables are in season, please visit the Idaho Preferred directory here.
