Ways to Give Back in Eastern Idaho
The holidays are right around the corner and to help meet the need in the community, several Pocatello organizations are hosting turkey drives and other fundraisers throughout the month:
Cranksgiving, hosted annually by Barrie’s Ski and Sports in Pocatello, runs all month long. Community members can donate turkeys or funds at Barrie’s leading up to Saturday, November 22. That morning at 10:00 a.m., participants will gather at Barrie’s on Yellowstone for a festive bike parade to deliver turkeys directly to The Idaho Foodbank.
Give the Cops a Bird, is an annual turkey drive hosted by the Pocatello Police Department. They are accepting turkey and monetary donations until Friday, November 21 at noon, with donations going to The Idaho Foodbank.
ISU vs. U of I: Tackling Hunger — while the Bengals and Vandals face off on the football field, they’re teaming up off the field to fight hunger. In the week leading up to the game, fans can donate at idahofoodbank.org/tacklinghunger to support their favorite school.
We’re filled with gratitude for the incredible community support we saw throughout October in Eastern Idaho. Across the region, businesses, organizations, and volunteers stepped up in a big way during our Holiday Food Fight to help stock our warehouse for Thanksgiving Food Boxes.
We saw some friendly competition this year between local organizations including Lookout Credit Union, Southeastern Idaho Public Health, School District 25, the Chamber Champions, and the City of Pocatello – all working hard to bring in holiday staples like green beans, corn, yams, gravy, pie filling, and more. The winning organization, Southeastern Idaho Public Health, will also be joining us to volunteer during our Thanksgiving distribution!
Our incredible volunteer teams also joined in the fun, with groups like Calvary Alliance, Gate City Ladies, our Pocatello Rock Stars, the Arches school program, and all of our ICCU volunteers all competing to collect stuffing donations. Congratulations to our Pocatello Rock Stars, who took the top spot this year!
Because of everyone’s efforts, we’re one step closer to ensuring families across East Idaho have everything they need for a full Thanksgiving meal.
