If you’ve ever wondered why cooking matters, look no further than Jerry, a student in The Idaho Foodbank’s Cooking Matters class. From helping with cholesterol levels to losing almost 80 pounds, Jerry has learned a lot about the benefits of cooking. “I thought health nuts were coo coo,” he said. “But I kind of see myself turning into one. I’ve enjoyed the heck out of the program.”
For women at The East Boise Community Reentry Center, the gift of a second chance is precious. The ability to start a new chapter gives them a sense of purpose and helps provide the necessary steps for their successful transition back into the community. Volunteering at The Idaho Foodbank provides such an opportunity.
Albertsons is once again teaming with Boise State football with its yearly tradition of “Sacks for Hunger,” a unique way to raise funds to help provide food for the roughly 179,000 people The Idaho Foodbank serves each month. For each sack the Broncos defense tallies this season, Albertsons will donate $500, up to $20,000 for the season.
Pocatello native Adam Walker has been named manager for The Idaho Foodbank’s Eastern Idaho Branch. Walker brings to The Idaho Foodbank 14 years of experience in the industrial and agricultural industries, with a specialization in logistics and procurement.
After 40 years in the telecommunications field, Bill knows a thing or two about helping people. After retiring from Boeing, he started his volunteer career as a safety manager at Usful Glassworks. “I helped train people needing employment or getting them the skills they need.” Then, he heard about The Idaho Foodbank and has been here ever since.
More than 1.5 million 3 oz. servings of beef have been distributed through the Beef Counts program in an effort to ‘Give Hunger the Boot.’ This campaign helps feed hungry Idahoans like Vanessa, who recently received a food box at a mobile pantry in a small rural town in Southwest Idaho.
