Snake River Elementary School received 40 pounds of oatmeal Thursday, which will feed more than 50 families, thanks to Happy Day Brands and the Idaho Foodbank. The donation is the first of 100,000 servings heading to school pantries across the state.
The final tally is in for Empty Bowls 2018 is in! Generous sponsors, donors, volunteers and community members came together over the course of a few hours on Black Friday for the 21st Annual Empty Bowls, and amazing things happened. 1,217 Treasure Valley residents attended. 1,799 hand-crafted bowls were purchased. For each sack the Boise State Broncos defense tallied this 2018 season, Albertsons donated $500 for a total donation up to $20,000 for the 2018 season. Going into Saturday’s game, the Boise State Broncos had accumulated 36 sacks. Just shy of 40 sacks, Albertsons showed its ongoing commitment to support The Idaho Foodbank’s vision of a hunger-free Idaho by donating the full $20,000. The check presentation took place on Saturday, November 24, 2018, during the final home game of the Boise State Broncos 2018 season.
As part of the annual Turkey Bucks campaign, shoppers at Albertsons stores in southern Idaho had the opportunity to add to their purchase totals to donate $1, $5 or $10 to Idaho families in need. On Thursday, November 13, Albertsons came to The Idaho Foodbank with a truck filled with 3,067 full turkey dinners for the families who need them most.
Veterans Day reminds us of our duty to support Americans in uniform who have served our nation. It’s an opportunity to reflect on our veterans’ sacrifices and examine ways we can help them when they return home and re-enter civilian life. As we support them, we can certainly agree that no veteran should go hungry. But, hunger, unfortunately remains a serious concern for veterans in Idaho and across the country.
