January 11 marks day 20 of the partial government shutdown and tonight we’re learning more about its potential impacts to the Treasure Valley. One aspect, is receiving benefits from the supplemental nutrition assistance program or SNAP.
As a partial government shutdown enters its second week with no clear end in sight, tensions are high for many, including the nearly 150,000 Idahoans who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program– which now faces the risk of an eventual lack in funding.
Lewis Clark Credit Union (LCCU) delivered truckloads of hams to local food agencies Dec. 18 through Dec. 20. The donations were divided between the Lifeline Food Pantry in Orofino, Idaho Food Bank in Lewiston, the Asotin County Food Bank in Clarkston and the Pomeroy Food Bank.

Players from BYU and Western Michigan worked together with Feeding Children Everywhere to put together packaged meals that will be distributed to the needy throughout Idaho during the holidays. The inaugural event provided more than 40,000 meals for the Idaho Food Bank.
In a friendly competition, Western Michigan and BYU competed for bragging rights over who could assemble the most meals in the shortest amount of time. The Idaho Foodbank was the winner.
