The Loaves & Fishes pantry has been operating in Council, Idaho for about 12 years. Once each month, approximately 10 enthusiastic volunteers work as a team to provide food to their neighbors.
Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, the CEO of Feeding America, visited The Idaho Foodbank at the end of May. The Idaho Foodbank is part of the Feeding America network of over 200 food banks across the country. Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States.
The Idaho Foodbank’s Backpack and School Pantry programs are designed to specifically address the needs of Idaho children facing food insecurity. As the school year ends, we want to share the impact of these programs.
Did you know that June is National Dairy Month? At The Idaho Foodbank, we have a lot to celebrate when it comes to dairy. We are fortunate to live in one of the top dairy-producing states in the country – only California and Wisconsin produce a higher volume of dairy products than Idaho.

Saturday marked the 30th anniversary of Stamp Out Hunger and we are happy to report that the National Association of Letter Carriers brought in 90,000 pounds of food in Southwest Idaho and 7,700 pounds in Pocatello.
May is Older Americans Month and this year the focus is around aging in place. A key component of aging in place is addressing the nutrition needs of our seniors.
Together with a network of over 465 food distribution partners, The Idaho Foodbank has a statewide reach with a local touch into all 44 counties in Idaho. In April we were able to come together as a network for in-person and online Partner Conferences, as well as a listening session with an emphasis on the connection and process of moving neighbors from a place of Hunger to Health.
Members of the National Association of Letter Carriers in the Treasure Valley dyed their hair blue earlier this month to promote Stamp Out Hunger! This was to help spread the word about the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 14th.
In March, The Idaho Foodbank hosted a Corporate Challenge where 10 local companies participated in a friendly competition to raise food, funds and awareness of The Idaho Foodbank. In total, the companies collected food for more than 244,100 meals and gave 128 volunteer hours.
This month we are highlighting foods with antioxidants to decrease inflammation in the body, which is critical to prevent cognitive decline. Whole grains are packed with antioxidants and fiber to keep you fuller longer.
