Chobani Helps Idaho Foodbank Purchase Food Truck

Through a grant provided by Chobani, LLC The Idaho Foodbank this week welcomed a new refrigerated food truck. The truck will be dedicated to serve South Central Idaho, including the Magic Valley, to provide greater access to nutritious food to assist families, children and seniors facing hunger.

Albertsons Companies Foundation Partners with The Idaho Foodbank to Feed Kids

The Albertsons Companies Foundation has selected The Idaho Foodbank as an official charity partner to receive donations from the annual Hunger Is campaign to eradicate childhood hunger. All donations made at 34 Albertsons stores in Idaho from September 1 – 30, 2019 will be used to provide healthy breakfast foods for kids via the Backpack and School Pantry programs.

Dairy West and Albertsons kick off “Moo Bucks” with Special Event

Join us for Hullaba-MOO on Saturday, June 1 as Dairy West, Albertsons, and The Idaho Foodbank kick off the “Moo Bucks” campaign to benefit Idaho families in need. Hullaba-MOO will feature games, prizes, dairy-focused classes, and the opportunity to take a selfie with a calf. The free event runs from noon to 3 p.m. at Albertsons Market Street in Meridian at 3499 E. Fairview Ave. “Moo Bucks” will be available at Albertsons checkouts June 1-15, which will help The Idaho Foodbank distribute dairy foods to clients.

Annual Study Reports Food Insecurity in Idaho Improving

An annual study released by Feeding America is showing the continuation of a positive trend in the total number of Idahoans who are food-insecure. The Map the Meal Gap report provides critical information including food insecurity rates for both the state and county level as well as the family budget shortfall for food-insecure Idahoans. Overall, the state’s numbers improved by 0.9 percentage points. Unfortunately, one in eight Idahoans and one in six children is still food insecure.

Walmart and Feeding America Launch Fight Hunger – Spark Change 2019 Campaign

The Idaho Foodbank, Walmart, Sam’s Club and Feeding America are kicking off the sixth annual nationwide “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign, which will run from April 22 to May 20. There are three ways to participate – purchasing a participating item in-store or online, donating in-store or donating on Feeding America’s website.

The Idaho Foodbank Increases Food Distribution 20 Percent Across The State

The government has reopened until at least February 15, 2019, but there are still significant concerns about the shutdown’s lingering effects. Federal workers are waiting for backpay, federal contract employees have lost income, and food stamp (SNAP) recipients are worried. As the state’s largest hunger relief organization and largest distributor of free food assistance, The Idaho Foodbank’s increase in food distribution will provide for an additional 266,000 meals starting this week and extending into early March.

Girl Scouts and Dairy Farm Families Team Up to Support The Idaho Foodbank

For the fourth consecutive year, Idaho dairy farm families are partnering with the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage. For every box donated to the Cookies from the Heart program, dairy farmers across Idaho will donate $1, giving customers an opportunity to double the impact of their charitable contribution. A $5 purchase will provide a box of Girl Scout Cookies and help The Idaho Foodbank purchase milk to provide hunger relief across the state.

Idaho Advocates Applaud Food Assistance Provisions in New Farm Bill

Nine Idaho organizations expressed their support for the food assistance provisions laid out in the newly agreed upon farm bill that passed with overwhelming support from Congress this week. On Monday night, House and Senate leaders released a farm bill agreement that protects and strengthens food assistance programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) for Idaho families.
